InSOPHE's role in offering continuing education:

InSOPHE, as a local chapter of the national Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) is designated by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) to provide continuing education contact hours (CECHs) for Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES®) and Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES®).  We offer CHES®/MCHES®CE opportunities to our members for FREE and to non-members for a fee.  

The CHES®/MCHES® designation after a health educator's name is one indication of professional competency and commitment to continued professional development. CHES®/MCHES® professionals have met academic eligibility, passed a written exam and has an ongoing commitment to continuing education and professional development. InSOPHE is committed to promoting and encouraging all health professionals in contributing to the advancement of the health of all people and the advancement of the health education/promotion profession through research, service, leadership, education and distribution of materials.  


CHES®/MCHES® CONTINUING EDUCATION RESOURCES:

There are many ways to obtain or search for CHES®/MCHES® CECH, both inside and outside Indiana:

  • InSOPHE Events – Visit our Events page for upcoming events, most of which provide CHES®/MCHES® CECH.
  • NCHEC Continuing Education Credit Activities – Search the NCHEC activity database for upcoming events and self-study opportunities to earn CECH.
  • Category II CECH - Apply for Category II CECH by logging on to your account through NCHEC's website. 
  • IUPUI Project ECHO – Join one of the ECHO programs offered through the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health at IUPUI to earn 1.5 hours of free CECH. Most ECHO programs are offered twice per month. Current ECHOs program topics include hepatitis C, LGBTQ+, HIV, cancer prevention and survivorship care, integrated pain management, and COVID-19.
  • National SOPHE Professional Development – Here you’ll find upcoming conferences and events, as well as access to SOPHE’s Center for Online Resources and Education.
  • American Public Health Association Continuing Education Program – This site lists some opportunities through their organization as well as links to a number of different organizations. This is an excellent resource for a diverse collection of CHES opportunities.
